Land of the Lotus Eaters

The Land of the Lotus eaters was an island near North Africa. It was inhabited by anyone who ever landed there and ate the fruit of the lotus plant. The fruit is narcotic, causing anyone who eats it to care about nothing more than eating it. Wayward travelers forgot about their journeys and families, wanting nothing more than to stay and consume this sweet narcotic. Odysseus was blown there on his boat in The Odyssey.
Although this was never directly mentioned in The Lightning thief, I believe they were making a reference to the narcotic fruit when they said anyone who eats the fruit of Persephone's garden would never desire human food again.
