Harpies

Harpies are mythical creatures that have the body of a bird but a females head. The were originally the personifications of the winds. Known as the spirits of sharp, suddon, gusts of wind. Eventually they formed into physical beings. They have the ability to fly at the speed of sound. They acted as the Hounds of Zeus and snatchers. They would caryr people off to the underworld while inflicting torture on them.

They would torment their victims by scratching their eyes out on the way to the underworld or tartarus. Known as the monsters who robbed food from Phineus and wouldn't allow him to eat, the only creatures that were able to get rid of them were Boreads.

The Three most know harpies are Aello, Celaeno and Ocypete. They are known as the sisters of Iris. They were once goddesses of storms and described as beautiful creatures. In later descriptions they became unpleasant. They make their home on the Strophades. A group of two small greek islands.img_harpyiai.jpg
