Define the Parts of Speech.

Noun: Person, Place or thing
Adjective:describes a noun ex.(shiny, loud, quiet)
Adverb: modifies a verb, adjective, and other adverbs. ex.(quickly, frequently, very, really)
Verb: what you do. action has transitive and intransitive (run, yell, think) linking connecting words (is, to be, seems).
Pronoun:takes place of a noun ( ex. he, she, it )
Interjection: a reaction ( ex. Ouch! That hurt)
Preposition: links noun or pronoun to another word. ex. (he runs in the yard)
Conjunction: joins words ex. (and, but, either or, neither nor)

VERBS: Know the difference between action verbs and linking verbs.

Examples of linking verbs: is, to be, seems, smells, tastes.

Examples of action verbs:jump, climb, run, bring, take, read.

Action Verbs--Transitive versus Intransitive (examples)
transitive: He gave her the box. She sang a song.
intransitive: He ran. She yelled.
