A female monster consisting of half nymph, half speckled snake. It lived in a cave coming out to snatch up and eat those passing. The creature was ageless but, not immortal. It was killed by Argus Panoptes while sleeping. It mated frequently with Typhoeus producing a variety of offspring. She is known as the mother of all monsters because most monsters in Greek mythology were her children. Sadly she is out shined by all of her monsters children, whom roam the earth terrorizing who they can. A species of Platypus was named after her.

We don't hear much about Echidna in this story, except that she is Chimera's mother. She disguises herself as a human and rides the elevator with Percy, Grover, and Annabeth to the observation deck of the Gateway Arch. There, she unleashes her pet Chihuahua on Percy. The Chihuahua morphs into Chimera. She says to him that he should be honored to kill her, thinking that she is special
