The shroud

. In the sea of monsters Grover is weaving the shroud to prevent being married to the cyclops suitor whom mistakes him for a women.

.In the odyssey Penelope weaves the shroud to prevent he suitors from marrying her.

Similarity

There both used to prevent and unwanted marriage and buy the savors more time.


Differences
The shroud that Grover is weaving is from an entirely different myth, following the story of Jason a hero of Greek mythology.

.in the sea of monsters, the mist is used as way to keep mortals from seeing the mythological world. People with relation to the god or whom are in there favor may see threw it, but so can monsters.
. In the odyssey the mist is used to council Odysseus as he went into the home of Alkinoos home. The mist is used mostly by Athena, and is used as a disguise in book VII line 150ish
