Chiron

Chiron is a centuar that is unlike any of his kind. Centuars are generally associated with greed, lust, drinking, rash actions, and other uncivilized behavior. Chiron, however, is intelligient, well versed in medicine, and respected in Olympus. Chiron trained many heroes, most notable of these being Achilles and Heracles.

Chiron married a nymph called Chariclo on Mount Pelion. He had three children with her, Hippe, Endeis, and Ocyrhoe.

Chiron's death was actually a result of one of the heroes he had trained. Heracles opened a wine bottle which caused all nearby centuars to go wild and attack him. He managed to kill all of them and struck Chiron in the thigh with a poisonous arrow. Chiron was immortal and could not die, but lacking the medicinal skill to heal his body from the poison, chose to give up his immortality.

Connection to Lightning Thief

Chiron appears in Lightning Thief as the camp director who takes care of the campers. In the beginning of the book he pretended to be the principal in Percy's school, hiding his horse legs with a wheelchair.
