Apollo Apollo, god of light, poetry, music, medicine and prophecy. Son of Zeus, Lord of the Sky, and Leto, goddess of motherhood, he is one of the most important gods. His twin sister Artemis, is goddess of the hunt. When the twins were born, they were welcomed into the world by their father, Zeus, who gave them each a wonderful gift. For the both of them, Zeus gave silver bows and arrows. For Apollo, he gave him a superb golden chariot, pulled by two majestic swans. And for Artemis, father Zeus told her that she never had to marry, unless it was her desire. Apollo, also being the god of music, adored instruments. He once received a harp, which he cherished very much, from Hermes, the god of travel and prince of thieves. Apollo turned out Helios, the sun god, and took over the sun. This is how he became the god of light and sun. He founded the Oracle of Delphi.
